 The Small Mountain Quarry in Dorrance Township, Luzerne County, is scheduled to exhaust its current materials in the next three years. Slusser Brothers, which has operated the quarry for the past 20 years, is seeking permits to continue the operation on its property just across Small Mountain Road.
The Dorrance Township Zoning Hearing Board in July 2007 denied the company’s application to continue operations. If Small Mountain Quarry is forced to close, it would cost 150 family-sustaining jobs and hurt the economy of Luzerne County.
